ONDES
MAI 2026

ONDES is a fantastical science-fiction immersive and interactive experience created by Julie Desmet Weaver and Axel Beaumont inviting the audience to resonate with our environments and rethink the way we inhabit the world.

Equipped with a VR headset and a vibrating haptic vest, the audience explores realms where every sound reveals an invisible language of the living world. Previously unreachable frequencies uncover new vibrations and fantastical truths. Until now, had we truly listened?

This project was in residency at Université Côte d'Azur's Georges Méliès campus thanks to the eXtended Reality Research and Creative Center (XR²C²). I took part in this project alongside my classmates at that time as both a sound designer and composer.

​

Every story starts on a animated city ambience that switch slowly but surely to one of the four realms available. I worked with Lucie Hauser on the realm Abysses in which, as the name hints, the audience would go deep into the abyss. They get lost into the depths of the sea until they meet an octopus and interact with it, and that interaction eventually becomes a dance.

​

I was personally in charge of the field recording needed for the city ambiance and the Abyss realm. As we were in South of France at this time, I spent almost a whole day in Nice recording in the streets and the famous Promenade des Anglais with a Zoom H6. For the Abysses realm, I recorded the sea in Nice as well and me walking on the rocks at the beach.

Lucie and I then worked on implementing these sounds together and bring music to that ambiance progressively until a climatic and cinematic end. The final track lasts for around 10 minutes of experience.

During the showcase, we were accompanied by the cellist Ayda Ghoreishi. The haptic vest would react to Ayda playing the cello using a microphone linked to the vest.
